Sevra Do the Business
18th
September 2008
Whatever
anyone thinks of SEVRA after reading the banter on the VRA Forum, you need to
know that they are the best bunch of friends that you will ever want to have
the pleasure of Riding with. This is just a brief insight as to some of what
goes on in SEVRA LAND despite any rumors to the contrary.
In
March 2007 after a traditional ‘Breakfast’ at Mickey’s, Thumbs and Suzanne
hosted the now annual Mean Faces event where we all get together and have the pleasure
of using the entire Close where they live to park up our pristine, polished
bikes, talk B…..cks and enjoy the BBQ that Thumbs and Suzanne have laid on, and,
I nearly forgot, have the lovely ladies pose with the bikes (all in aid of
charity)!!
Last
year Spock also ran an auction where various donated bike parts and Leathers were
sold to the highest bidder, and of course the mandatory donation bucket is
always ready to receive any sterling denomination offered to it.
This
event grows in popularity every year so they must be doing something right!!
The
whole point of this event is to raise some extremely needed funds for ‘Demelza
House’ this is a Children’s Hospice situated in nearby, Sittingbourne, Kent
where children with terminal diseases can spend their last days with their
families in a peaceful dignified environment. The Hospice also gives respite to
the families of these children to allow the parents a well deserved break from
the 24 hour constant care that these poor kids need.
2008
saw another mean Faces event with a raffle draw that Squeek worked really hard
to obtain some excellent prizes for. Whilst I was unable to go this year I was
assured that once again the word ‘Success’ was used with everyone enjoying a
great day.
With
these and other Fund raising events during the year, SEVRA was able to
collectively get together the incredible sum of £1,036.00. On Sunday the 18th
August, a total of 23 Leather Clad SEVRA and TIVRA members, and a member of the
Cobra MCC, who also helped raise some funds, met up at Mickey’s for Breakfast.
We held a short meeting and for those SEVRA members not present, Chronic
stepped down and Trivor was elected our new Webmaster Thingy. Nothing else
within SEVRA changed.
By
11.02 am we were on our way
to Demelza House. We had the cash that had been collected, 40+ Goody bags that
my daughter had put together and an envelope donated by Stix & Tigga full
of VRA badges, stickers and pins.
If
you have never been to a Children’s Hospice, beware, it is a very Sobering
experience and regardless of the size and or gender of our group it was hard to
find an eye that was dry.
Thumbs
spent most of his time ferrying the staff around the car park on his bike and
the rest of the time having some of the children sit on his pride and joy!!
The
gratitude and the attitude of the Staff and volunteers at Demelza is an example
to us all and several times since our visit when things aren’t going so well I
think back to that day and tell myself how lucky I am.
Below
is an e mail I received from Demelza shortly after our visit which illustrates
the warm welcome and gratitude that was shown to us. …………………………………………………………………………………………….
Hi
Trevor
Hope
you are well and enjoyed the rest of your Sunday, thank you again to you and
all the guys for making such a special journey to bring the cash to
Demelza. It was a special day and I know that we all enjoyed your visit,
the children take home with them a diary of their stay with us and when I
dropped into the house yesterday they were putting the photos, badges and bits
and pieces together in their diaries which were great. You and all VRA UK are
brilliant and your fundraising is truly inspirational, it makes such a
difference to the lives of our children and families and the fact that you
enjoy raising the money helps too!

By
12.31pm we were all
driving along the M2 towards Essex making our
way back to Sunny Southend-on-Sea to our house for a BBQ in the Garden. The
weather man predicted a rainy start and then sun for the rest of the day, for
once he was spot on, which gave the day an even nicer feel.
Watch
out for 2009 SEVRA will be holding another SEVRA Summer Sponsorship with the
aim to raise even more for The Children of Demelza House.
My
Heart felt thanks to every one who helped raise this money, and to the staff
and volunteers at Demelza House.
Congratulations
and best wishes from all at SEVRA to Tiny & Zara following their Wedding in
August.
See
you all at the International, if not before.
Lord
Sav.
